[Speaker 1]: What is the procedure of doing a medico-legal case? Like for example, in bigger hospitals what has happened is that they give a letter and the relative goes and deposits in the police station and takes a stamp. Their procedure is not moved ahead. But in a smaller hospital, it becomes very difficult to explain, especially in in fracture patients who have fallen at home, that basically this is important. They'll say we have fallen at home, why should we go to the police? Or even for road traffic accident, bola, I have done accident because I my bike slipped. That I have not causing anyone fault. There is nobody at fault. There is no foul play here. They are saying like that. Then why should I go to the police station? I don't want to go to the police station. Then what is the procedure, step one, two, three, a doctor or a hospital owner should follow for doing this medico-legal case? [Speaker 2]: Very good question. See, ultimately legal liabilities are always on the doctor because MLC plays a vital role. We don't know what is going to happen further. Is it a crime or not a crime, it is going to be decided by the people. Our role is to inform because the law is very clear if you came across any crime, it is your duty to inform administrative authority. If not, then punishment is there. But now in many cases which rightly said by you that people do not allow for MLC. Maybe a friendly relation, maybe a slip or maybe whatever. But we don't know what is going to happen further and why patient died. In such a scenario, it become very important because we need to safeguard ourselves. Now, what step we need to take? Even if at all patient is not agreeing, we need to explain and inform them. Process are very clear what you rightly said, you can send a letter to senior PI. It is your duty, maintain your MLC record and take a stamp so that copy is going to be there. But today since we are in technology, every police station has got their own email ID. You need to search email ID or you can take from the police station. You just need to email. That's all. Your job is over. We are not filing any complaint. We are intimating ki bhai such and such a patient with such and such an accident came. I am doing a treatment. It is just intimation to you. In matter they come or they don't come. Many of the time police do come and they give a statement, no I fallen, so they also don't take care and they they just left the hospital. But we need to just do email. If not, or many of the time I have found that ki in spite of all effort we could not able to do, then we advise that call on 100. Mention time on your IPD paper. Person who picked is going to say his name or buckel number, mention that and intimate to that because that is a recorded message. And that if you mention, immediately police will come and they will take down the note of that and they will go. See, in that scenario, my doctor's safe because we don't know if a patient suddenly dies, then we don't left with any defenses. I've got multiple cases which has happened with my doctor in simple accident also. So it is advisable in any accident case to better do, intimate a police. That is what is a medico-legal cases or MLCs.
